My Most Next-Gen Anticipated Games for 2007
1. Assassin's Creed - PS3 (Multi Format)
The game takes place during the Third Crusade, in the year 1191 . The player assumes the role of Altair (Arabic, "The Flyer"), a member of the Hashshashin sect (the original "assassins"), whose objective is to assassinate the nine historical figures who are propagating the Crusades. As the player finds and kills these targets, their conspiracy is unveiled.
The environment is completely interactive, from the people to the historically 'accurate' cities. These cities are populated by many people and the way the player controls Altaïr affects how people around him react to his presence. For example, when going through a crowd, if the player lightly moves someone out of the way, it will not have a significant effect. However, if the player throws someone to the ground and kills them, the crowd may unite against him and he will then have to find a way out. Similarly, if the player shoves a person aside, they may shove him back. If he climbs walls, civilians will gather around, attracting unwanted attention from guards.
2. Grand Theft Auto IV - PS3 (Multi-Format)
Set in a redesigned Liberty City in the year 2007. Niko Belic has come to Liberty City to pursue the "American Dream". Niko was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin Roman, who claimed in multiple e-mails to Niko that he was living a fabulous life, with two women, four hot tubs and fifteen sports cars; but he was in fact telling lies to hide his own failures. Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City to begin with, and is one of his major connections in the first part of the game. Niko is a tough character, whereas Roman is friendly. Roman is heavily in debt and a lot of people are after him. He desperately needs Niko's support, hence the reason he deceived Niko into traveling to Liberty City.
Titles in the GTA series have traditionally been heavily mission based (fixed missions must be completed to progress through each game), but the freedom to explore and play outside of the set missions in GTA IV will now be more relevant to progress through the game, according to comments by a Rockstar spokesperson: "We're really trying to blur the line between on-mission and off-mission. So storyline, and what you do while being idle, and how those two things influence each other."
3. Haze - PS3 (Timed Exclusive)
The game is set over a three day period in the year 2048, where no UN or NATO forces cease to exist because they were taken by a contract military corporation or private military contractors Mantel Global Industries. You play as Sergeant Shane Carpenter, a new recruit in the Mantel Global Industries army who was born in the year 2023, ending up fighting rebels in South America. The war between the rebels and the Mantel Global Industries army began in the year 2032 (roughly) when Shane's mother was killed at The World Games, this world games is known by the people in the HAZE as,
Haze will have a 'serious' tone unlike Free Radical's TimeSplitters games which provide a more comical and laid-back gaming experience.
4. Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway - PS3 (Multi-Format)
The 3rd entry in the Brothers in Arms series of video games. It will see players reprise the role of Sgt. Matt Baker, a soldier of the 101st Airbourne, during Operation Market Garden in the late stages of World War II.
The game has many new features, including the ability to command a further squad from a selection of new specialized units (bazooka teams, machine gun teams, mortar teams, as well as radio teams with which to call in artillery support). When a command is issued, the player model uses hand signals to issue the command to his squad, just like the previous games in the series. The player also has the ability to take cover behind objects much like in Rainbow Six Vegas.
5. Killzone 2 - PS3 (Exclusive)
The game is set in an era of space colonization where the Helghast Empire has recovered from its defeat in the First Helghan War and launched a blitzkrieg against the outer colony planet ISA-Vekta. Vekta's orbital defense platforms failed during the initial assault, allowing the Helghast to land swarms of soldiers onto the surface. This makes it all the more difficult for the outnumbered ISA forces.
Little has been known about this game. Surely seems outstanding - Will it beat Halo3 ?.
6. The Getaway - PS3 (Exclusive)
Little has been known about the story line. The game seems to be set in present day, obviously featuring new terms of gameplay and visual graphics etc...
The third installment of Sony's popular London-based crime franchise. A technical demo featuring Piccadilly Circus was demonstrated in May 05 at E3, directly from game footage. It has been confirmed that the game would again be set in London and rumours have been circulating that the game could also feature Amsterdam who knows, maybe you (as character will travel from City to city. It has been given a tentative release date of October 2007.
7. Army of Two - PS3 (Multi-Format)
Set in 2019, you play as Jake Dunn, a US Delta Force operator. Dunn and his team are sent in to investigate a mysterious meteorite that has crashed into the Spartly Islands, located in the South China Sea. The United States is not the only government aware of the crash; the North Korean Army is also investigating the crash site. The reason this meteorite is being treated as mysterious is due to the fact that it has barely damaged the area surrounding its impact.
8. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - PS3 (Multi-Format)
A mysterious middle-eastern dictator by the name of Al-Assad and his men have joined forces with a Chechen ultranationalist; Zakiev, the two leaders and their respective advisors forming the "Four Horsemen". The rise of this new threat has brought about war. The story is told through two characters: a British SAS trooper stationed in Russia and a US Force Recon Marine stationed in the Middle East.
Fourth installment in the COD series and the first to not be set during World War II. The game's main setting is the Middle East and Eastern Europe. The developers have indicated they may also utilize additional locations, according to Game Informer Magazine.
9. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - PS3 (Exclusive)
Set at an unspecified amount of years after the "Manhattan Incident" (the events of the Plant chapter from Metal Gear Silod 2), MGS4 portrays a world where the restriction of military intervention on foreign soil has eased, leading to demands on mercenaries, stalkers and solo soldiers to fight contract military companies (PMCs). However, the five largest PMCs are revealed to be owned by a single mother company, Outer Heaven (the name of Big Boss' mercenary company and fortified nation in the original Metal Gear), operated by Liquid Ocelot. It is revealed that Outer Heaven has amassed a military equivalent in manpower to the United States' own, and is now preparing to launch an armed insurrection. With the world once again in crisis, Solid Snake is deployed to three locations: The Middle East, South America and Eastern Europe.
The title's single-player mode will follow a similar stealth blueprint to previous Metal Gear titles, where the player must negotiate the gameworld in order to progress, using stealth and cunning in addition to traditional combat. It will utilize a similar third-person and top-down switchable camera featured in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, but reportedly allowing the freedom to play in first-person mode. The Close Quarters Combat system will also be reprised, allowing players to interrogate guards for information and supplies.
A new form of camouflage called "Octocamo", which replaces the camouflage system featured in MGS3. Grey-black when disabled, the Octocamo suit allows the wearer to blend in with any surface in the manner of an octopus.
